We are a Netherlands-registered non-profit with a vision to harnessing the power of giant kelp to help restore the health of the planet.
Our aim is to address the gaps in the science and knowledge around giant kelp’s ecosystem services, and establish kelp forests as a powerful nature-based solution against climate change and other ecological issues such as ocean acidification and biodiversity loss. We also drive the recognition and application of kelp forests through capacity building, ocean education and public awareness.
Research and results will be open access and publicly available to benefit science, industry and community. Funding for our objectives comes from a wide range of sources, including donations, grants, subsidies, prizes and periodic contributions.
Kelp forests are magical underwater habitats, known to be one of the most productive natural ecosystems on the planet. They are a key asset to naturally combat the effects of climate change and have a positive impact on a wide range of environmental challenges.
The climate crisis is intensifying, and we need to do as much as we can to halt greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere. At the same time, scientists believe that alongside reducing emissions, we will need to find ways to actively remove and hold or ‘sequester’ carbon from the atmosphere to achieve net zero emissions.
